Why a call to Mexico fails
An extra 1 after 52
Since 3 August 2019, every Mexican number has 10 digits and mobiles take no extra 1 after 52. Old guides still show 52 1, and some carriers reject it.
00 is not the exit code everywhere
Mexico's own exit code is 00. Most calls to Mexico come from the United States, where the exit code is 011, so a call to Mexico City starts 011 52 55, not 00 52 55.
The number does not take calls from abroad
Numbers that start with 800 are toll-free inside Mexico and often do not take calls placed from outside the country.
