Left and right channels

Press Left, Right, or Both. The test tone plays only on that side for about a second, and the side is marked. Change sound swaps the tone for one of three songs. A left right speaker test uses the same idea: one side, then the other, then both together.

  • Left and right

Left is the side on your left when you face the speakers. Right is the other side. A stereo sound test sends the sound to one of those sides at a time.

  • Headphones

Put headphones on, press Left, then Right. Each ear should get the sound alone. Speakers in the room need the same check, with you facing them.

  • Songs, or a tone

The test tone is the cleanest check: a dead side stays silent and you notice at once. For fun, switch to one of three songs, each played on one side at a time, so a quiet side cannot hide. With your own music, pick a track you know is stereo and listen once on each side.

When a side stays quiet

Two checks find almost every silent speaker

  • When only one side plays

Check the balance in the system sound settings, and check that the audio is not forced to one channel. A loose cable or a Bluetooth device set to one ear does the same thing. Stereo vs mono is the first thing to look at.

  • When the computer stays quiet

Raise the volume, pick the output device the computer is actually using, and try headphones. A muted output or the wrong speaker leaves the sound silent.

What this page plays

This speaker test online is an audio test you run in the browser. Use it to test sound and to test audio with nothing to install. A speaker test sound check confirms both sides before you rely on them.

Questions

How do I test my left and right speakers?
Press Left, then Right, then Both. Each press plays a short tone on that side.
How to test left and right earphones?
Put the earphones on and press Left, then Right. The sound should change ears.
What is left and right in audio?
Left is your left as you face the speakers. Right is the other side.
What songs can I use to test my left and right speakers?
Any stereo song you already know, or the songs on this page, which play on one side at a time so a quiet side cannot hide.
Why is only one speaker playing?
Check the balance, a cable, and whether the audio is forced to one channel.
Why can I not hear sound on my computer?
Raise the volume, pick the speaker the computer is using, and try headphones.
How do I know my speakers work before a call?
Play Both and listen. If you hear the sound on each side, the speakers can carry a call.
