Before you start

  • Do a safe warm-up

Hum and slide gently up and down for two minutes first. A warm voice gives a truer lowest and highest note than a cold one.

  • Comfortable range and full range

Your comfortable range is the notes you can sing clearly through a whole song. Your full range adds the edge notes you reach for a moment. Test the comfortable range first, then test again for the full one.

  • Chest voice and falsetto

Low notes come from chest voice. Near the top, the voice may flip into falsetto or head voice. The test counts any note you hold steady, so note which voice you used.

  • Hold the note, do not slide

The test takes a note you keep on one pitch for about one second. A slide or a short shout does not count. Move away from fans and TVs, because noise breaks the hold.

Questions

How do I determine my vocal range?
Sing your lowest note, then your highest note, and hold each for one second. The distance between them is your vocal range. To answer what is my vocal range, the result gives your range in octaves, like a vocal range calculator.
What are the 7 vocal ranges?
Charts often name seven: soprano, mezzo-soprano, contralto, countertenor, tenor, baritone, and bass. This test uses six vocal ranges. It calls contralto alto and leaves out countertenor, whose range is close to alto.
Is F3 low for a girl?
F3 is a low note for most women and for a girl with a high voice. The usual alto range in the vocal range chart starts at F3, and some contraltos sing lower. It is a normal note for a low female voice.
Is 2.5 octaves a good vocal range?
Yes. Each usual range on the chart spans 2 octaves, so 2.5 octaves covers more than one voice type. Training can add notes at both ends over time.
Is the vocal range test accurate?
Like any vocal range tester or singing range test, it reads the note you hold to the nearest half step. The result depends on your voice that day. A cold voice, a noisy room, or a short note gives a smaller range, so test again after a warm-up.
Can I use falsetto or head voice for the top notes?
Yes, if you can hold the note steady. Many singers test twice: once in chest voice only, and once with falsetto or head voice at the top. The two results show your chest range and your full range.
Is it safe to test the extremes of my voice?
Yes, if you stay gentle. Warm up first, never push or shout, and stop if your throat hurts or feels tight. A range grows with practice, not with force.
Does the vocal range test upload my microphone audio?
No. The browser reads your voice in this tab, and no audio leaves the device. You need no vocal range test app, and nothing is kept after you close the tab.

Your voice stays on your device

This vocal range finder runs in the browser with the Web Audio API. It uploads nothing and stores nothing. It is also not a voice type test: it shows the usual range for each voice type that matches your notes, and only you decide your voice type.

Your mic is ready for a call

The browser hears your voice clearly. That is all a call from your computer with Suparelay needs.
