  • Sound from a video

Save the sound of a film, a talk, or a music video as its own file, and keep it unchanged when you pick the format marked Original

Drop a whole folder, convert every file with one press, and save them all with Download all

  • Settings you control

Pick the bitrate, keep one part with Trim, make it mono, change the sample rate, fade the ends, or even out the loudness

Use it on Windows, Mac, iPhone, iPad, or Android, with nothing to install and no account

Which bitrate to choose

The MP3 format stores sound at a set bitrate. A higher bitrate keeps more detail and makes a bigger file.

ChoiceBitrate, file size, and use
Small file128 kbps, about 1 MB per minute. Enough for speech, podcasts, lectures, and voice memos.
Standard192 kbps, about 1.4 MB per minute. The default, and a good fit for most music.
High320 kbps, about 2.4 MB per minute. The highest MP3 bitrate. As a music converter to MP3, use it for albums you keep.
MonoUnder Options, Channels set to Mono puts both sides into one. Use it for a single voice recorded on one microphone.
Where MP3 playsPhones and cars, browsers, smart speakers, game consoles, and nearly every music player sold since the late 1990s.
When not to use MP3For a file you will edit many times. Each lossy save removes more detail, so keep a WAV or FLAC copy as the master.

What files you can convert

  • Any file with sound

Drop any file into the MP3 converter. File types it reads include MP4, MOV, MKV, WEBM, M4A, WAV, FLAC, OGG, OPUS, and AAC. WMA and AMR do not open in browsers, so they fail with a clear message.

  • A smaller MP3

Put a large MP3 back through the MP3 converter to MP3 free of charge, at Small file, to fit an email. It loses a little more detail each time, so keep the first copy.

  • On iPhone and Android

Phones get the same MP3 converter. iPhone users tap Drop files or choose files in Safari and pick from Files or Photos. On Android, Chrome opens the same picker, and the MP3 goes to Downloads.

  • Why there is no link box

You convert files you already have. There are no link downloads from YouTube or any other site, and DRM-protected songs do not open.

Questions

How do I convert a file to MP3?
Drop the file, keep MP3 under To, and press Convert. Play the result, then press Download.
What is the best free MP3 converter?
Pick one by what it does with your file. You can use the MP3 converter free of charge, with no daily limit and no ads. The file stays on your device.
Is an online MP3 converter safe?
Many upload your file and show ads with fake download buttons. This free MP3 converter runs in the browser, so no copy of the file goes to a server.
Can I convert a YouTube link to MP3?
No. This file to MP3 converter works only with files on your device. It does not download from YouTube or any other link.
How do I convert a file to MP3 on iPhone?
In Safari, tap the drop area. Choose the file from Files or Photos, press Convert, then tap Download. The MP3 is saved in Files.
What bitrate should an MP3 be?
192 kbps for most music, 320 kbps for music you keep, and 128 kbps for speech. A higher bitrate than the source adds no detail.
Does converting to MP3 lose quality?
Yes, a little, because MP3 is lossy. At 192 kbps and above the loss is hard to hear in most music. From a WAV or FLAC source the result is as good as MP3 gets.

Privacy

The browser reads your file, makes the MP3 in memory, and saves it to your device. No network request carries the file, so a private recording stays private.
